Good gardens don't happen by accident. They’re the result of careful listening — to the land, the light, the way a family actually lives — and a deep belief that outdoor space is as important as any room inside.

Garden Design

Richard has been designing gardens in Sydney and beyond for more than twenty years. Trained in urban horticulture, he began with the compact, sun-drenched courtyards of inner-city Sydney and has since worked across a broad range of scales — from intimate terrace gardens to sweeping rural properties.

His approach is rooted in the idea that a garden should feel natural to its place. That means working with the local climate, choosing plants that earn their space, and finding the balance between structure and softness. There's always an eye on longevity — gardens designed to grow richer with time, not require constant intervention.

Richard's own ongoing project, restoring the heritage garden and home Trincomalee at Pittwater, keeps him close to the soil and honest about the long game.

Garden design services are offered through Studio UC.
